On hetken kaunista

Lauantaina kävin rannalla kävelylla kuuden tunnin työ-koulutuksen jälkeen. Oli kiva päästää ulos kun oli niin kauan saannut istua sisällä. Ilma oli vähän kylmänpuoleinen, mutta oli tosi rentouttavaa olla yksin ja kuvailla maisemia. Ei tarvinnut ajatella stressaavia koulu ja työ asioita. ;) Kaunis iltapäivä kyllä oli! Enimmäkseen pilvinen, mutta auringonlasku oli tosi upea. Kun pimeys laski, siirryin pikku kahvilaan juomaan teetä ja kirjoittamaan yhdelle kaverille kirjettä. Illalla sain nähdä yhtä kaveria kuka oli viikonlopuksi käymässä kotona kaliforniasta, missä hän opiskelee. Oli ihana taas nähdä häntä! Sunnuntai toi taas kuuden tunnin työ-koulutukset. Kun pääsin illalla kotiin, sain taas pitkästä aikaa syöda borscht keittoa. :)

On Saturday, I went for a walk on the beach after six hours of workshop training for work. It was nice to get outside after all those hours spent sitting in a classroom! It was a bit cold out, but it was really relaxing to just be by myself and photograph my surroundings. I didn't have to think about school and work, which have been somewhat stressful lately. Anyhow, it was a beautiful afternoon, and the sunset was amazing! When it got dark, I moved to a small café to enjoy a chai tea latté and write a letter to a friend. In the evening, I got to see one of my friends who was visiting home from California, where she is currently studying. It was so nice to see her again! Sunday brought another six hours of workshop training. When I got home in the evening, I was in for a treat - my family had brought me some borscht soup for dinner! :)

Snow Day! (Almost).

Aside from a class presentation this morning, I've had the entire day free thanks to the snow that has accumulated and prevented me from driving anywhere :) It's been somewhat productive, though perhaps my priorities may have mixed themselves up in the process ;)

Tänään olen saanut viettää vapaapäivää! Aamulla kävin yhdessä luokassa, mutta sen jälkeen en tarvinnut lähtee töihin ajelemaan lumen takia. :) Oon saanut aika paljon ajoiks tänään, mutta ehkä tän päivän prioriteetit ovat menneet vähän päin metsää ;)

I filled up much of my spare time today baking apple-cranberry-blueberry crumble with swedish vanilla sauce, and cooking up some pasta with sherry sauce for dinner. So good!

Vapaa-aikani vietin tänään enimmäkseen keittiössä. Leivoin omena-karpalo-mustikka piirakkaa ruotsalaisen vaniljakastikkeen kerä ja tein illalliseks pastaa ja sherry kastiketta. Hyvää oli!

And of course I had to go for a walk in the snow before studying!

After all this procrastination, I should probably start studying for my statistics test!

Le weekend

This weekend brought about the first snowfall of the season!

(Although there wasn't much, and most of it has melted)

It was a welcome change from the gloomy rain we've been having.

 I also began a project I've been putting off for a while, which entailed plenty of seam-ripping; it's quite relaxing, actually. I'm transforming this vintage shirt into a vest or scarf - I haven't decided yet. ;)

 I found some leftover fabric from the crib lining my grandmother had sewn for the crib I slept in as a baby. There was the perfect amount for a makeshift scarf. The rose is part of a broken necklace that I pinned on.

And I found 3 old pairs of earrings at a Christmas market for $1.50 :)

All in all, not a bad weekend!

Do it right

What a fantastic morning! Not only did I sleep wonderfully last night, I woke up to check my e-mails and discovered that my work day got shortened and my only class today was cancelled!

I think, in celebration, I will do some reading for Psychology, knit, and drink copious amounts of eggnog chai tea. :)

Ray Charles is the perfect accompaniment to such a morning as this!

She lived alone except for a nameless cat.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is one of my all-time favourite movies. Audrey Hepburn is a jewel.

Bang Bang

I love shopping in thrift stores! I always manage to find interesting things. Here's what I bought yesterday [along with U2's Achtung Baby CD, which is not photographed here...look it up though, the album art is awesome]:

There was no way I could pass up on this cute ceramic owl! It now sits happily on my drawer.

I couldn't pass up on these either. I mean really, who shouldn't own a copy of the complete works of Shakespeare? And the Anthology of English Literature included a whole section of Edgar Allan Poe, and that in itself was enough to make me want to buy the book.

And these heels, which are amazingly comfortable!

Finally, here's a tune by Nancy Sinatra I enjoy listening to - particularly on rainy days such as today. I found this video that was overlaid with the original footage of Nancy singing, which I thought was pretty neat.

I watched this movie in french class a couple years ago and I was captivated by the cinematography and the simplicity of it.
